Units started to ship to Kickstarter backers in March 2013 and were released to the general public in June 2013. It featured a store for applications and games designed specifically for the Ouya platform, the majority of which were casual games. Out of the box, Ouya supports media apps such as Twitch and the Kodi media center.[7] It runs a modified version of Android Jelly Bean, with rooting being officially encouraged.[7] The console's hardware design allows it to be easily opened up, requiring only a standard screwdriver for easy modding and possible hardware add-ons.[11]

As of January 1, 2014, the limited edition white Ouya went off sale and cannot be found on the official store, nor from any official resellers. On January 31, 2014, a new black version of the Ouya was released with double storage and new controller design.[28]
On May 21, 2019, Razer released a statement which announced that online accounts and services would be discontinued on June 25, 2019. According to Razer, most apps will become unusable on the platform, many relying on the user accounts to work. Razer suggests that users may be able to transfer purchases to other storefront platforms like Google Play, if developers and publishers agree to such.[15]
By July of 2012, the Xbox 360 had been on shelves for almost seven years and its successor still hadn't been announced. The PS3 was six years old and similarly feeling a bit stale. The feeling that the console industry was stuck in a rut wasn't about to be challenged by a holiday lineup spearheaded by largely unremarkable entries in long-in-the-tooth franchises like Gears of War Judgment, Halo 4, and God of War Ascension. The Vita had flopped at launch early in the year, and between a lack of killer apps and/or horsepower, the soon-to-be-released Wii U was struggling to build excitement as well.
In 2008, the state of New York adopted a law that required all game consoles sold at retail to include content- or ratings-based parental controls. While the ESA released a statement calling the law an unnecessary and unconstitutional government intrusion, the trade group did not ultimately contest the matter in court.
Any advantages or disadvantages will play out as the new Xbox and PlayStation consoles are released. In addition, Ouya and Nvidia will need to attract notable game titles and large catalogs to become viable gaming devices.
It's not often we see a new game exclusive to the Android TV platform. Mercenary Kings is a 2D action game funded in 2014 on Kickstarter and originally released for Windows. The game was later ported to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, and eventually released on Steam. Now Mercenary Kings has made its way over to Android TV.
Before I go into the Ouya itself, an important note: Ouya plans regular software updates that could alleviate most complaints about the system. If those updates successfully fix the problems, we will re-evaluate the Ouya to reflect that. This review is based on the Ouya as it was released to the public at launch, with firmware from June 24, 2013.
I wanted to like the Ouya. A $100 Android-based game system with a gamepad seems like a great idea. However, even though it's been released as a retail product, it's just not ready yet. It's held back by a mediocre controller and a software interface that, at the time of launch, is unacceptable. Unless you're willing to go to developer-like extents to load software on the Ouya, it simply isn't open enough and the game library isn't large enough to justify it. Its 3D graphics aren't particularly great even compared with smartphones and its controller is disappointing. We could revise the Ouya's rating in the future if the company fixes its myriad software omissions. For now, though, unless you're dedicated and technically savvy, it's just not worth it.
In the last few weeks, we've talked about lots of Android Lollipop ports for numerous devices. Ouya is different than all of them, but it still received some custom ROM love. This gaming console received a quite functional version of Android TV thanks to XDA Forum Member cbwlkr, who made a port based on the system dump of ADT-1 and proprietary files pulled from the Google Nexus 7. LAN, WiFi, sound, and Bluetooth already work properly, though a few things still need to be fixed. They surely will be, because Google has released the final factory image for Android L on the Nexus 7, which shares quite a bit of common hardware.
Although the Android Ouya console failed to make the splash its developers hoped, one aspect of its platform did impress a lot of indies: its Free the Game promotion. With it, Ouya promised to match whatever developers were able to raise on Kickstarter from a million dollar fund. The plan was to dole out the additional funds in waves when the game hit beta, was released and eventually left Ouya exclusivity, but due to its buyout by Razer, several developers recently announced that they didn't expect to receive anything.
Julie Uhrman, former CEO of Ouya, sent a Tweet to Razer stating she can't wait to see what it does with her former team. She went on to thank those who helped bring Ouya to reality and hinted that we'll see her again with a new project in the future. Soon after, Razer made its own confirmation, welcoming @playouya to the Razer family.
Update, 07/27/2015, 11:12am PDT: Razer has posted a press release on its website that reveals a few more details of the purchase. While no financial details have been released, Razer stated that it has acquired the software assets of Ouya and will not be using the hardware. Instead, Razer will be integrating Ouya's software platform into its existing Forge TV micro-console.
Unfortunately, the specs underpinning the OUYA meant that we were never going to see groundbreaking titles make their way to the little console. At the end of the day, what we typically saw was developers porting their already-released mobile games to the console due to the relatively light developmental effort involved. For games that were designed to be played on the go, why would gamers want to sacrifice the benefit of mobility? The living room space remains dominated by home console games.
Chrono Blade was definitely one of my favorite Ouya downloads back in the day, a seemingly worthy twist on God of War. But as far as I saw it was only ever available as a limited demo with 2 playable characters and a level or two to try out. Was the full version ever released for Ouya? If not, why not? Is the full Android version compatible with Ouya?
The Ouya (pronounced "ooh ya") is an android based video game console released in 2013. The idea of the console is that every console can essentially be used as a "development console" and thus developers have a much lower barrier to entry than on competing consoles.

Well, let me break it to you this way. If you've never heard of Ouya before, and it sounds like something you might want to buy - you're out of luck. After receiving an additional $15 million in venture capital on top of the amount already collected at Kickstarter, the console finally went on sale on Tuesday, June 25th. It was sold out on Amazon and Target by Tuesday afternoon. Web surfers are searching frantically for "console ouya", "kickstarter ouya", "android ouya" and "ouya games".
Okay - some booming search trends are pretty darn easy to figure out without a whole lot of digging. Such is the case for "ios 7 beta 2". iOS 7 may only be due out this fall, but on the week of June 24th, Apple released iOS 7 Beta 2 to developers via Software Update, and as a download at developer.apple.com. Based on the frantic search volume for the beta version of iOS 7, I don' t think iPhone users have to worry very much about having enough apps to choose from when iOS 7 is released this fall. 2ff7e9595c
